MEET THE HOST
Kim Wyrley-Birch, Dyslexia specialist and teacher
Kim Wyrley-Birch is a passionate Dyslexia Specialist and certified assessor dedicated to empowering alternative learners through both personal experience and professional expertise. As a mother of three neurodivergent children, Kim’s journey into the world of learning differences began when her children—each facing unique challenges with dyslexia, dyspraxia, and attention difficulties—began struggling at school. The emotional impact of watching their confidence fade, coupled with the lack of adequate school support, spurred her into action. Determined to make a difference, Kim trained at the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre, eventually earning her Level 7 Diploma in Teaching and Assessing Learners with Dyslexia/SpLDs. She now works as a specialist teacher and SEND Governor at her local primary school, combining deep personal insight with expert knowledge to transform lives. Creator of the Let’s Fly Reading Programme, Kim believes that understanding the “why” behind a child’s struggle is key to unlocking their potential. With unwavering belief in the unique strengths of dyslexic learners, she advocates that no child should ever feel stupid or worthless—only not there yet. Her work continues to inspire parents and educators alike to help children with SpLDs soar.
"I believe every person with dyslexia has something unique to offer, their own set of incredible strengths. None of them deserve to feel stupid or worthless because they can't read, write, spell or do maths YET.
Work on the weaknesses through the strengths and, in their own time, they can learn to fly..."
